Spent 2 days at the new Langham hotel in Shanghai for a work session. At one point, I used a combination of my limited Chinese words of hello, how are you, a Diet Coke please and thank you to the staff at the Langham. I can also count to 10 and bargain like a pro, telling them to not treat me like a stupid melon for I am a foreigner, but it wasn’t the time. At that moment I realized I have been in China just long enough…. it is a good feeling the words just came out but very embarrassing, their replies back to my in English were excellent. I am sure they all thought how sweet, a tourist read a few words out of her tourbook and trying them out. There is just no need to do that at the Langham.
