Christmas Turkey Oven Fit Test

We were deciding if we should go out to eat at one of the many hotels in Shanghai for Christmas Dinner or stay in. We decided to stay in and host Christmas Dinner for a few (10) friends who are staying in Shanghai as well.  We are going to cook a turkey in my big girl easy bake oven!

We ordered a frozen Turkey from Fields an online grocery store. Turkeys are imported from the US and since this bird came from Utah and had to fly so far, I am sure that is why it costs sooooo much. 420 RMB which is around $70! Not even cooked it is that much, good heavens. Darn imported goods!! We decided it was cheaper than going out and will make the house smell nice. The next worries:

  1. Do we have a big enough pan for it? We don’t have a roasting pan here and you can’t find them in the store and if you did they would probably be the cost of 3 turkeys.
  2. Will it fit in the oven? Todd and I had a discussion what we would do if it didn’t fit. Our plan involved thawing the turkey and then cutting it up to pieces and baking it. Good thing I am watching American Horror Story for I think I have learned some skills in that area.

The turkey came delivered to our door. No box, bag or anything, just the frozen turkey in its net handed to us by the handle made out of the net.  I don’t know why I find it amusing. It was also the only thing we had delivered. I guess it is the fact you can order just a turkey to be delivery probably on a scooter.

We put it in the 1 pan we have, lowered the oven rack, and placed it in. It fits! YAHOO!

It fits!

That is a relief. The next challenge will be how long will it take to cook? With it being such a small oven does that mean it will cook faster for the heat is closer to everything? The oven is also in Celsius , that is for Todd to figure out for I think when he was in the school, that is how measurements were taught. Did you know the US is 1 of only 3 countries who do not use the metric system? Us along with Burma and Liberia.

Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) said it nicely, “Blame President James Jimmy Carter. He started America on a path to the metric system but then just gave up. Pfft. He wonders why he was a one-term president”

Thanks Rebecca and Todd for showing me a $70 turkey! I never saw one before at that price. It looked good in your oven and I bet it will taste good too.

    Merry Christmas,
    Barbara
